First Time to Swing

Like I said in my previous post, we did not get out verymuch this past weekend but we did manage to walk to the swing set in our neighborhood.Football is on so we find ourselves stuck on the couch, ordering pizza in ourPJ’s which I love!  Now that Beau can situp a little bit better we felt like he would like to swing in the bucket swingsso we decided to sneak out of the house for a bit to try it.

Lilly was our watch dog while we played

Beau enjoyed it! He thought it was funny when the wind blewin his hair. He sat very still and just enjoyed it. The weather was perfect forthis outing. It was about 70 degrees with no humidity that morning which madeour walk very pleasant. We love how our neighborhood has a very nice pool andplay ground in walking distance of our house. It is the small things in lifethat make all the difference. I am sure we will have many more weekends up atthe park!

Sweet Potatoes

This past weekend Beau got to try sweet potatoes and WOW heliked them!

Waiting for his meal

I put three sweetpotatoes in the crock pot for 5 hours on Saturday, let them cool, put them inthe Baby Bullet with a little milk formula and pureed them. Then I put them inlittle small containers for us to freeze and refrigerate so Beau could eat themall week.  I love making baby food! I canget about twelve 2 oz containers from those three potatoes which is awesome!

Talk about saving money! I went to the store the other dayand decided to price baby food and the going price is $1.49 for two little 2 ozjars. WOW! I made 12 jars for about $1.80 with the real thing!

After he ate, I gave him a bottle and then he took a big napwith daddy. Oh how we love our Saturdays with our little man!

The Common Cold

I think my body was fighting a cold last week and luckily I gotrid of it before it really became something. I was cold all the time, verytired, achy bones, runny nose at night and a little cough. I felt likesomething was coming on all week due to all my symptoms but I took someAlka-selzer (gross) and it all went away. This past weekend Beau started havinga little runny nose and a cough at night. On Sunday the runny nose got worseand so did the cough so we just hung around the house. A four month old babycannot take anything for a cold so we just have to wait it out. He seemed fineand did not have a fever so we were not too concerned. I guess I passed italong to him. One thing that we think helped a lot, especially at night was hisHumidifier in his room. He did not cough as much at night when we had that littlething blowing moisture into the air.

It is never fun whenyour little one is sick but the snuggles will make you smile.

A Day on the River

Jon has been working so hard these past few weeks and I am just so proud of him. He sends me pictures during the day of things he is working on and I like to save them so I can upload them on here so one day Beau can see all the cool stuff his daddy does. Here is a glimpse into Jon's world this week....

Corn going into the barge

Barge ready to be shipped out

Barge Control Office
Beautiful morning sun

Trucks coming to dump their corn

Afternoon sunset

More and more trucks full of corn

At the end of the day, this is where Jon finds his happy place!
Beau is so blessed to have such a hard working dad who wants his son to have the best life possible! We love you Jon!

Happy Birthday CiCi

This past week was my mom's birthday, September 24th to be exact. Unfortunately we could not be down in Daphne for her birthday dinner but we were there in spirit. My dad and brother took her to Ruth's Chris Steak House to celebrate and they had a fabulous meal!

Happy Birthday to the best mom a girl could ask for!

Wordless Wednesday

In the Life of Mom & Dad

I have decided to write this blog for not only myself so Ican remember all the little things Beau has done but for him when he is able toread. I plan to blog about every little thing and then turn this blog into ahard back book each year. I think it is a wonderful way to capture all thepictures we have, all the little moments we have spent together and I don’thave to run to the store to print off pictures to put them in an album. I guessthis is the “new” way of doing a baby album. I believe that baby albums aresuper important. My parents did a tremendous job with mine and my brothers. Ihave about 5 albums of me growing up and to this day I still love to lookthrough them to see all the wonderful people who cared so much about me. It isfun to laugh at the clothes we all wore, the haircuts, to see the people whohave passed on, to see how much our parents loved us, our birthday parties, thegifts we got, etc. I want Beau to look back on his childhood and do the sameand feel those wonderful feelings like we have.

So I thought this post could be a little different. I wantto capture how life is for Jon and I when Beau is spending the night at thegrandparents or away from the house for a little while. When I do not have Beauwith me (Catherine) I chose to clean the house, go get groceries at Kroger, goshopping for fun things like clothes and house stuff, lay on the couch, watchTV, go to dinner with Jon, look on Facebook, give Lilly some attention, spendsome time with my friends (Melissa and Courtney- the neighbors), talk on thephone, do craft projects and enjoy the silence. When Jon has some alone timefrom Beau he likes to take naps, watch TV or mostly football, kayak, hunt, cutthe grass and sleep in. Of course we LOVE every second with Beau but it is niceto have some down time.

Our jobs: Catherine works full time at Pinnacle Solutions,Inc. where she is the Facility Security Officer working with GovernmentContracts and Jon works at Gavilon Grain where they buy and sell grain fromlocal farmers and ship it all over the world via barge, train and truck. Weboth are so lucky to have such wonderful jobs that we love! My hours are prettyset in stone and I don’t work overtime but Jon works a ton of hours. He workson average 13 hours a day and at least one day a weekend during peak grainseasons. He works so hard to provide for our family!

The cars we drive: Catherine drives a white Hyundai Santa Feand Jon drives a red Nissan Frontier. We are in the process of getting Jon anew truck in the next few months so that is exciting for him.

Our house: we live in an awesome neighborhood called TheWillows at River Landing in Madison, Alabama. It is our first house that wehave purchased and we feel super blessed to live in such a beautiful home withfabulous neighbors.

Our dog: we have a precious little feisty beagle-dotson-jackrussel mix named Lilly. Her nickname is Lilly Lu and she is so much fun but canget wild at times. She loves Beau and thinks his toes are the tastiest thingsin the world. She barks at anyone who comes to the door and will growl ifanyone gets too close to Beau. She loves to burrow herself in blankets and laysaround pretty much all the time. She loves to go on walks with Beau and I sowhen she sees me pull out the stroller she gets so excited. She is three yearsold and was our first “child.”

Your grandparents: Catherine’s parents (Cyndie and Dan) livedown in Daphne, Alabama along with Uncle Brown (Cat’s brother). That drive isabout 5 ½ hours long and we go down there any chance we get! Jon’s brotherChris and his wife Kelly also live in Daphne so when we visit we can see somany people which is great! Jon’s parents (Sandy and Hughey) live here inHuntsville. Their house is in South Huntsville which is about 25 minutes fromour house. Family is very important to us so we try to make it priority forBeau to spend as much time as he can with everyone.

Well that is our life in a nutshell. We are pretty busy withbalancing work, fun and downtime but life could not be any better and we aresuch a happy family! God Is Good!

4 Month Pictures

4 Month Check-Up

Beau is a growing boy and he is changing almost daily. Hehad his 4 month birthday on Sunday and yesterday (Tuesday) we went to thedoctor for his 4 month checkup. Honestly, I could not wait to go to thisappointment because of all the fun diet changes we could talk about. He weighedin at 17.9 pounds (85%), 26 ¼ inches long (90%) and his head is 42cm around(75%). He is one healthy boy! The doctor told us he is going to be tall and Ican certainly believe it because Jon and I are tall. We talked with the doctorabout starting him on solid foods and she said “go for it!” We have already hadhim on cereal for a few days and that has been going great so I knew thistransition would be easy. I could not be happier. This momma wants to cook herboy all kinds of yummy goodness like sweet potatoes, butternut squash, bananas, avocados, apples, pears, etc. This weekend I plan on going to the local farmersmarket and picking up a few things for him to try. The plan is to start withone thing for a few days and see how he reacts to it and then try another one.I will update you on how that goes! The worst part of the visit were the 4month shots that he had to get. Of course she screamed for a second but thenwas a big boy and smiled. Our car ride home was quiet because he slept theentire way. I am so proud of my little man and we are so happy that we havesuch a healthy baby!

First Day of Cereal

I have been so anxious about Beau starting cereal because heseems to be hungry all the time. He is eating between 40-45oz a day and stillseems unsatisfied. He has always been a great sleeper and has slept thought thenight since he was 2 months old and for the past week he has been waking up atnight really hungry. He will turn 4 months old on Sunday so I have beenresearching all about the cereal phase and I cannot be more excited about it!Yesterday, Jon and I talked and we decided it would be best for us to just goahead and start introducing him to cereal. I called his doctor and the nursesaid it was fine so we gave it a go! Beau liked it!! He thought it was so funnywhen the spoon touched his tongue and when he saw spoon coming he would laugh. It was so much fun but of course it made a huge mess! I think the best way isto feed him with no shirt on b/c we had to put him in a new outfit once it wasall over. Last night I fed him cereal and then gave him a bottle and he sleptall night. It was exactly what he needed and I am so happy to finally be inthis stage now!

Teething

Our little man has been a little fussy off and on the pastfew days. At first I thought he was just tired or hungry but nothing seemed tosoothe him so I figured it was teething. He will drool all the time so he wearsa bib pretty much with every outfit. He has started biting every toy andblanket that is in his reach. He will put both his fingers and fist in hismouth all the time. He does not like a pacifier so the fingers are his primarysoothing toy. He has this little blue elephant that he loves to play with and gnawon so we try to have that around him at all times when he is in his car seat. Hehas been having diarrhea off and on for the past week and the doctor says it isfrom the teething.  His poor littlebottom has been so chapped from the diarrhea so he has just been a mess! He isnot a fussy baby at all so when he is inconsolable we know his little gumshurt. Mrs. Pat gave us a good tip. She said to buy soothing tablets which aresold pretty much everywhere so the other day I ran out and got some. They arebetter for babies than Tylenol and seemed to really work.

We go see the doctor for his 4 month check-up on Tuesday soI cannot wait to get him on cereal because he is so hard to fill up. The milkis just not enough anymore! *More to come after the doctor visit!
