Lowering a Mattress and Making Fresh Food

The time has come to lower Beau’s crib mattress. He is at the point where he can sit up and is curious about pulling up. He does not pull up yet but is thinking about it by putting his hand on the rail and trying to look over. Jon and I decided to be proactive and lower his mattress before he does pull up and flip out of his bed. Sunday afternoon it was raining so we decided it was the best time to tackle this project. It was actually very easy and only took Jon about thirty minutes. It makes us feel better that Beau is now safe in his bed at night.

I have been one to really follow the books when it comes to blankets or objects in his crib. He has one small bunny that sleeps in his bed with him and we have recently started putting a blanket on him at night. The blanket is crotched so it has lots of holes in it so if it were to get over his face he could still breathe. I am pretty sure he is out of the stage of suffocating in his bed but it is always in the back of my mind. Beau loves the blanket being over him at night. I think he feels really secure and loves to snuggle with it. He is so precious to watch on the monitor. I still catch myself watching him sleep.

This weekend I also made Beau some yummy food. I don’t make all his baby food but I do make most of it. I love to put fruits and veggies on a roasting pan and put them in the oven to cook. I then puree them and put them in the freezer in ice trays. It is so much cheaper than buying the baby food at the store. Don’t get me wrong, I do purchase baby food but I find much joy in making it myself.

          

Life is so much fun with a baby and never a dull moment in our house!

8 Months Old

On Wednesday, January 22^nd Beau turned 8 months old. The photo op was much more difficult this month because he wanted to eat the sign.

Here are some of his highlights:

·        Sleep- he goes to bed every night between 6-7pm. He is only drinking about 5 oz of milk before bed and falls asleep pretty quickly. Sometimes he likes to be rocked and sometimes he if content with being put in his crib. He can now reach the mobile that spins over his head so we will need to drop his mattress down pretty soon. Does not ever wake up during the night!

·        Feeding- He is still eating #2 foods. He will eat everything except avocados, green peas and green beans. He loves fruit and will eat two jars for lunch and three jars for dinner. I make all the food that he eat for lunch. I puree fruits and veggies and freeze them in little containers. Mrs. Pat will put two on the counter each morning so they can defrost in time for Beau’s lunch. 

·        Clothes- he is wearing 12 month clothes. He wears footed PJ’s to bed, loves hats, wears socks but likes to try and take them off and likes coats. Very easy to dress him! Right now Jon and I love to see him in flannel shirts and corduroy pants. Such a cute little boy look!

·        Diapers- he is wearing size 3 diapers. He hardly ever has a diaper rash. Wears the 12 hour diapers at night which never leak.

·        Curiousness- he is very curious about his surroundings. He will touch your face, pull hair, study my ring and watches everything him.

·        Mobility- he is moving around in his walker all over the house. He will stand under our feet while we cook in the kitchen and loves to play with the trashcan lid so we have to put that in the closet. He will open each cabinet and pull on every towel that is hanging down in his reach. He can go all over our house in the walker and will get around pretty quickly. The walker cannot go on the carpet so he is limited to everywhere but the bedrooms.

·        Bath- he still LOVES his bath! Splashes around and does not care at all if water gets all over his face and in his eyes. He never cries when we wash his hair or accidently pours water all over his face.

·        Sickness- he has only been sick one time with an ear infection about two months ago. He is a really healthy baby and we hope it stays that way!

·        Talking- he is babbling like crazy. He can say “dada” and “momma” and has all kinds of conversations that he can understand. He is very vocal and likes to hear himself talk. He will screech when he gets really excited and wave his arms around. He will blow bubbles and make poot noises all day long while drool is coming out of his mouth from his teething.

·        Teeth- he now has two bottom teeth that have made it through the skin. When he was teething he really was not very fussy but we could tell he was teething by the amount of drool that was pouring out of his mouth. He wears a bib most of the time so he does not soak his clothes. He likes to play with his new found chompers with his tongue and will chew on his toys. His most favorite things to chew on are books so we have to monitor that. I really don’t like him messing up his nice books!

·        Crawling- he is getting the hang of crawling more and more these days. He will roll if he wants to get somewhere quick but he will pull himself around with his arms when he crawls. We are not rushing him because he will crawl quickly when he is ready. I will put him in his room with a bunch of toys around him and he always wants to crawl to his little nightstand to get the books off the shelf. He loves to take the books off the shelf and spread them everywhere, then chew on them. Too funny!

·        Laughs- he will laugh and smile all the time. He is so easy to make laugh. You can tickle him, make a funny noise, wave to him from across the room or just look at him and he will laugh or give you a big smile. He is such a happy boy!

Life After the Holidays

January and February are by far my least favorite months of the year. The holidays are over and we are left with freezing temperatures and gloomy skies. This year the weather has been particularly cold and tends to change drastically overnight. At the beginning of January we had freezing temps that went down to 6 degrees and our pipes froze. Luckily they did not burst! The month has been back and fourth with extreme cold and a few really nice days in the 50’s & 60’s. I am not a fan of cold weather. I hate bundling up with layers, wearing boots and dreading going outside each morning.  I am a true southern girls who loves her flip flops and tank tops!

We have been trying to make the most out of these miserably cold days. Beau has been a pure joy. I hate to brag but I think he is worth bragging about. I am not kidding when I say he is the easiest and happiest baby I have ever been around. He is perfectly content with playing by himself in his room with his toys. He only cries when he is hungry or tired. His easy going attitude has made it easy to entertain him in the house when we cannot go outside. He enjoys wagon rides inside the house, playing with his toys, sitting in his ball pit, walking in his walker, interacting with us, watching me cook in the kitchen, playing with Lilly and of course eating.

 

We did get to sneak outside on Martin Luther King day. It was in the sixties so we went for a wagon ride around the neighborhood. We all enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine.

 

This past Friday we took Beau to his first hockey game. Jon and I had no idea how the night was going to go because Beau religiously going to bed between 6:30-7 every night. We met our friends for dinner around 5:30pm at Newks and then all headed to the game that started at 7:30pm. Beau was a champ! The arena was packed and we ended up finding seats at the very top level and we had no room to space out. We were all jammed in our seats which was kind of uncomfortable. Beau enjoyed looking at all the people and actually watched the hockey guys playing on the ice. He did have a meltdown when the first goal was made and everyone was cheering. He is not a fan of loud noises! After he calmed down he got use to all the noise and enjoyed the action from then on. We left after the second period which was around 9pm. Beau was extremely exhausted and we knew we could not push it too much longer. Once in the car he fell asleep and was in bed by 9:30pm. It was a very successful night and we are so proud to have a little boy who can be flexible with his bedtime and hang out with his parents on a Friday night.

 

We are praying for warmer days and cannot wait to be outside. Hopefully that time will come sooner than later!
