Thankful Hearts

This Thanksgiving has an extra special meaning. Jon and I have a beautiful baby boy who is the spark to our joy and who lights up our entire world. We can honestly say that we have everything we could ever imagine and are thankful to have such a wonderful life. We have a healthy child, two sets of very supportive parents, wonderful grandparents for Beau, fabulous aunts and uncles, a loving marriage, a beautiful home, cars to get us around town, wonderful jobs that we both love, a great group of friends, a loyal dog and a life full of new adventures every day. Jon and I were talking the other night about how our life has changed so much over the three years that we have been married. God has a plan and He is constantly in control. Sometimes we let the fears and anxiety of the world take over which always brings negativity into our hearts. Jon and I have learned to let go, which can be very difficult and allow things just to happen. No, our life is not perfect but we could not ask for more.

We are approaching the holiday season with open hearts and we are not letting any negativity spoil our first Christmas with our baby boy. We are excited to spend time with our families but we are also excited to spend a little quiet time with just the three of us.

I hope everyone has a happy holiday and make sure to focus on the things in life that you are thankful for. Life is short so we need to make the best out of each moment!

Family Photo Shoot Preview

This past weekend we met with our favorite photographer at a local Christmas Tree farm to take some family photos. We always send out Christmas cards with our pictures on them and this year I wanted to make them extra special because it is Beau's first Christmas. Here is a sneak peek. More to come in a week or so.....

The Scary Bear

I took this video one afternoon while I was playing with Beau. He has a white bear that tell nursery rhymes that he really enjoys so I thought he would like this tan bear just the same.

The response I got was priceless b/c he has never cried like this before. The bear has now found a new home!

6 Months Old

Time could not be going by any faster. Jon and I remember getting ready for Beau’s arrival and now he is a half a year old already. Our lives have been forever changed and in the best way of course! This month has been full of fun milestones which is always so much fun to see.

We just went to see Dr. Bryant for his 6 month check-up and he now weighs 20.5 pounds (92%) and 28" long (95%). He is going to be a tall boy! He loved the paper on the table while we were waiting to see her! He was super happy until he got his shots. He cried just a little bit but overall he was a strong boy!

His biggest accomplishment is he is sitting up all by himself! He started sitting unassisted this week which makes things a little more easier. We can now put him on the ground and he will play with his toys for long periods of time. He will study each and every one of them very closely. He loves the bright colors, the music, ones that light up, the ones that make a crinkle sound, the squishy ones and the balls of course. He will throw the balls sideways once he looks at them long enough.

Beau is not crawling yet but he has started to do the “inch worm” crawl. His best method of getting somewhere is rolling around until he gets there. It is too funny to watch!

Lilly loves to go lick his neck or ear which Beau finds so funny. I guess it tickles. Lilly will sit on the ground with him and watch his every move. Beau loves the company and will grab her ear or fur when she gets close enough. One thing that is amazing is that Beau can tug on Lilly’s ears or pull on her lips and she just does not care at all. She will let him do whatever he wants to her and then will get up and lick him. It is the beginning of a long friendship with those two.

Beau is a great eater. He really is not very picky. His favorites are sweet potatoes, pears, peaches, bananas, prunes, strawberries, peaches, peas, green beans and squash. He does not care for avocados. I am making the majority of his baby food and that is going great and saving us a lot of money. I freeze them in ice cube trays and pop them out into a plastic bag for later use which is the perfect method. He tried yogurt for the first time this week and really enjoyed that. I think he thought that was his dessert! He is also drinking a lot of milk formula so he is one growing boy! He eats in both his Bumbo seat and his highchair. The Bumbo seat is getting a little snug so we are transitioning out of that. His legs are getting a bit chunky!

Beau still loves to jump in his Johnny Jump-Up and will stay in it for long periods of time. He also loves to sit on the floor with his toys and play with his activity mat. He likes to sit in this vibrating chair and watch football with us. He likes to lay in his bed and look at his mobile that goes around in circles and plays music. Jon is working on him standing so he will stand at the coffee table and prop himself up which he thinks is so fun. He is not a huge fan of me reading books to him but he will listen to one book and help turn pages. He responds really well to singing and will smile every time.

Beau is a fantastic sleeper. He sleeps all night from 7pm-6:30am consistently. Sometimes he will whine a little bit at night but will go right back to sleep. Jon and I never go in to sooth him because we don’t want him to get use to us going in there if he cries. At night our routine is to give him a bath, put on his footed PJ’s, give him a bottle then put him in his crib to look at his mobile. He will then turn himself over and go to sleep. He sleeps on his tummy and side. He rolls around his crib and moves around at night which is pretty funny to watch in the monitor. He takes about a 3 hour nap every day from around 11-2 in his bed or in the pack-n-play at Mrs. Pat’s. He loves to nap!

Beau still loves his bath time! He will sit in the tub and splash around and reach for his rubber ducky’s. He does not mind laying down on his back in the water to get his hair washed and will just kick his feet. I think he will love swimming! He thinks it is so fun to dry off after the bath and loves to have lotion rubbed all over him. He really is one happy kid!

He can now hold a 5oz bottle all by himself. This saves me about 10 minutes in the morning. Our morning routine is for me to get almost dressed and then get him out of bed. I will change him and get his clothes on for the day. Then I will put him in his bouncy chair or lay him in our bed with his bottle so he can drink his milk while I finish getting ready. This new little routine has allowed me to get to work at a better time in the morning. Beau likes being a little independent with his bottle but still enjoys us giving it to him at night!

He is now wearing 9month clothes and inching closer to the 12 month sizes in the PJ’s. He is really a tall boy with a chunky body so he will be a big boy! He loves to wear hats, jackets, socks, long sleeves or no clothes at all. He is wearing size 2 diapers but we are about to move up to size 3 ones we are finished with the box we have. The 12 hour night time diapers are a lifesaver at night. They never leak which makes a huge difference because I am not a fan of changing his sheets all the time. Pampers are by far the best brand but Huggies will work too.

He still does a pretty good job of riding in the car but it is not his favorite thing. He can fall asleep pretty quickly if it is around his nap time but he is not one to fall asleep every time he gets into the car like some babies. He enjoys looking out the window and really likes it when someone is in the back seat with him!

Beau is at the precious stage of smiling when someone comes around. He will light up when Jon or I enter the room but he will also smile at most people who talk or smile at him. He does not cry when he goes to strangers and is overall a very very happy baby. He cries when he is hungry or tired but that is pretty much the only times.

We are so blessed to have a happy, healthy and independent child. We love him more than anything else and he has made these past 6 months a pure joy!

Pj's & Football

Last weekend could not have been any better. Friday night Jon was so exhausted from his week of work that we ate left overs and watched football. I think all of us were asleep by 10pm. Jon thought he had to get up early and work on Saturday morning but the barge did not come in time so he had the day off. The Auburn game started at 2:45 that afternoon so we spent the majority of the day in our comfy clothes on the couch watching football and playing with Beau. Beau is such a joy to have around and play with. He really is never fussy unless he is hungry or tired. On Saturday he jumped in his “jump, jump” , played with his toys on the rug, hung out in his walker and worked with his standing with Jon.

He took 2 really good naps on Saturday (10-12:30 & 3-5) in his bed. He loves to sleep, just like him momma! He sleeps on his back, tummy and side. He rolls around and gets comfy with his arms tucked under his belly. Love that little boy!

Saturday night our good friend/neighbor, Melissa, came over to watch the game with us. I cooked Red Beans & Rice with a salad and she brought brownies. We had a delicious meal in our Pj’s on the couch. Both Alabama and Auburn won this weekend so we had happy faces!

Sunday rolled around and we spend the day in our PJ’s. The weather was warm and rainy so it was a perfect day to not go outside. We watched a few movies and took some naps. NFL football came on that afternoon so we watched some of that. I did get off the couch to clean the house and do some laundry which was piling up. I cooked a big dinner that night and we all went to bed pretty early. Overall it was a much needed family weekend together. Jon has been working so much lately and he comes home so tired so this weekend allowed us all catch up and enjoy each other.

Cheers!

Our Life Lately

The month of November has turned out to be a pretty busy month in our house. Jon and I are busy working and sometimes find ourselves passing through life without much interaction. One of us will be getting home from work, one will be cooking dinner, and then someone is taking care of Beau, playing with Lilly or cleaning up. Jon and I are loving our life with Beau and are starting to find our rhythm in this world as parents. Last night we finally got to sit on the couch and talk about our day and had an adult conversation once Beau went to bed. Luckily Beau goes to bed around 7 every night so we typically have a few hours by ourselves until we head to bed unless Jon has to work late. We love being parents and are finally figuring out our new life and balancing everything. Life is an adventure for sure!

The month started out with Daylight Savings time (fall back and hour) which is not my most favorite day of the year. We adjusted pretty well but we sure did take that Sunday to sleep and watch football all day. I think we were all ready for bed around 7pm. As you can see, Beau and Jon were passed out in the chair very early on that night!

This month has brought some cold weather so we are having to dress warm most days. I have some really cute warm clothes for B and he looks so cute in them!

We did have one really warm day on Veterans Day. I was off work that day so Beau, Lilly and I enjoyed the back porch. I think it was about 70 degrees.

Beau also loves his hats. He has such a big head so we have had to go up to a size 12 month so they don’t just pop right off. Check out his cuteness:

We went down to Jon’s lake house with his family this past weekend which was fun and relaxing. His mom and aunts wanted to have a little memorial service for his grandmother that passed away a while back because they recently had her body cremated. Uncle Chris and Aunt Kelly came so they got to spend some quality time with little man. They loved it and so did he!

Beau is starting to sit a little bit unassisted which is really exciting. If he reaches for a toy on either side of himself he will tip over but if he sits looking forward then he can sit by himself so we are almost there! He is also holding small 5oz bottles all by himself which greatly excites me. This would give me a little extra time in the morning once he can feed himself. His 6 month birthday is coming up and I cannot believe how fast time is going by. I will update all his milestones in that post so more to come!

Life is good!

Halloween

I think Halloween might be one of my favorite holidays of the year. Fall is in the air and I love how people get creative with their costumes, trick-or-treating, cooler weather, pumpkins, caramel lattes, boots and football. This year was Beau’s first Halloween and he was a pumpkin.

I decided to send out Halloween cards this year so we took his picture in his costume at the beginning of October so we could send the cards out before Halloween. He card came out better than I thought it would. (I wish I had a picture of it)

This year I wanted to make Halloween special by inviting over some friends for food then trick-or-treating. We live in a neighborhood with lots of kids so I knew that it would be so much fun seeing all the kiddos dressed up. The weather actually did not cooperate because it rained that afternoon and evening but our friends still came over which was fun. We actually did have some trick-or-treaters that were brave enough to go out in the rain so we got to hand out some candy. Beau is still too young to understand what Halloween is so next year will be so much fun!

Lyons Family Farm

Jon and I wanted to take Beau to a pumpkin patch this fall so last Sunday we loaded up in the car and went to one. The Lyons Family Farm is located in Taft, Tennessee which is about 30 minutes from our house. The farm had so much to offer. We got to play with the little animals, pick out our own pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, play in the corn kernels, jump in the bouncy house, take a little tractor ride and slide down a slide. Family time is always nice and we were happy that we could enjoy this experience just the three of us!
